Department of Criminal Justice
The Choctaw Nation Department of Criminal Justice includes Probation, Corrections, and Court Security, working together with integrity, purpose, and compassion in dedication to the Choctaw people.
The Probation Division supervises offenders sentenced in Choctaw Nation District Court who are serving court-ordered sentences in the community rather than in jail. Probation officers monitor compliance with court mandates while also equipping individuals with the necessary tools, guidance, and resources to succeed. This approach promotes rehabilitation and facilitates the successful reintroduction of individuals into society.
The Corrections Division is responsible for managing incarcerated tribal members, ensuring they receive proper care in a secure environment. As part of its commitment to restoration and healing, the department offers inmate programs and classes designed to promote rehabilitation and facilitate a smoother transition back into the community, reducing recidivism. The Choctaw Nation also leads a Jail Ministry program, providing spiritual support and encouragement to those currently incarcerated.
The Court Security Division ensures the safety of all Choctaw Nation judicial buildings and courtrooms. Court bailiffs are responsible for maintaining order during court proceedings and ensuring that all participants, including judges, staff, attorneys, and the public, follow proper procedures in a secure environment.
